The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) says vehicles alleged to have been rebranded to support the National Democratic Congress (NDC's) campaign ahead of the November elections do not belong to it.

“The Commission has no connection to the said vehicles. We urge the media and all political parties to desist from drawing the NCCE into any partisan brawling,” a statement from the NCCE read.

This follows the arrest of the managing director of Marbles and Granites, for allegedly circulating pictures of some 50 Mahindra vehicles belonging to the NCCE which was being rebranded to support NDC's campaign ahead of the November general elections.

The pictures went viral on social media accompanied by the message “NCCE Mahindra vehicles being rebranded with NDC colours.

                                    

National Security Advisor, Alhaji Baba Kamara confirmed that he ordered the arrest of the managing director.

He said the yard on which the vehicles were parked belongs to him and it was not right for Mr Ayo Ani to take any pictures.

He suspected the managing Director, Edmund Ayo Ani of taking the photographs and circulating them because of the direction from which the shots were taken.

But the Deputy Chairman in Charge of Operation for the NCCE, Samuel Akuamoah told Joy News that the NCCE has “never used Mahindra vehicles in the operation of its duties.”

He said the Commission does not ask the government for vehicles to perform its duties and has records to prove that it has not used Mahindra vehicles ever in its history.

“If it is true that they belong to us and there is proper documentation to prove that, then maybe there is a kind donor somewhere who wants to donate them to us and maybe they have found their ways somewhere else, we don’t know,” Mr. Akuamoah added.

He said although the Commission has a gap in logistics, it has enough to mobilize to do its work ahead of this year’s election.

When asked if the commission has made a request for vehicles, he added that the budget for the Commission for this year has been approved by the Finance Committee of Parliament.

“We have a funding gap which we have made a further request for but is yet to be approved so I don’t know where this is coming from,” Samuel Akuamoah noted.

He, however, refused to make the content of the supplementary budget that is pending approval.
