The Asante Akim South Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has intensified its public education on tax in order to increase public compliance to boost revenue mobilization for the country.The move also forms part of the Ghana Revenue Authority’s (GRA) efforts to generate more revenue to finance the national budget and reduce over-reliance on foreign remittances.As part of the Public Education Programme, the directorate has organized a forum for Obogu Presbyterian Women’s Fellowship at Obogu.The women were educated and briefed on the importance of tax scheme and the need to patronize GRA offices.The Municipal Director of NCCE Mr. Samuel Kwasi Otchere said the GRA would meet its revenue collection target if the public became aware of their moral and civic responsibility in the system.He made it clear that revenue mobilization for national development is not the duty of only one institution but it is a shared responsibility of all Ghanaians.Mr. Kwasi Otchere stated that revenue generated from taxes was used to finance and sustain free SHS, National Youth Employment Programme, National Health Insurance scheme, Good Roads and Hospitals among others.Mr. Patrick Asare, a Civic Education officer entreated Ghanaians to patronize GRA offices to file their tax returns.He said when they refuse to insist on collecting the invoices and receipts they give the officers the chance of keeping the revenue otherwise meant for the state.Mr. Asare, therefore, advised dealers and retailers of shops to register with GRA and help the government raise revenue for national development.Mrs. Faustina Botwe, the president of the fellowship on behalf of the members expressed their appreciation for the need for people to honour their tax obligations to move the nation forward.Similar programmes were organized for Hairdressers, Tailors & Seamstresses, Motor repairers and Kola nut production associations all in Obogu.
