The Network of Communications Reporters (NCR), has congratulated the Dr Omane Boamah on his appointment as the new Minister of Communications.
The NCR is aware of the positive exploits of the new Minister during his days as President of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) through his reign as the Deputy Minister of Environment and Science and expressed the hope that he will bring his rich knowledge and experience to bare to further transform the sector.
In a release signed by the Dean of the NCR, Mr Charles Benoni Okine, it said the network is also impressed with the performance of the minister during his vetting by the Appointments Committee of Parliament and expressed the hope that, he will do well to ensure that the new initiatives such as the local roaming will be pursued to give customers a better and easier choice.
"NCR is particularly grateful to the President, Mr John Dramani Mahama for appointing another young, dynamic and knowledgeable personality to run the affairs of Ministry of Communications," the release said.
The release said a number of bold initiatives were undertaken by the past minister and expressed the hope that Dr Boamah will be in the position to continue from where his predecessor left off to enable the country benefit from the growth of the sector.
"The NCR is aware that the every 10 per cent growth in ICT infrastructure leads to a percentage increase in Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and therefore, we believe that once the sector grows, the country will be better off", the release said.
The release mentioned the effort underway to see to the successful migration of the analogue broadcasting television to the Digital Terrestrial Television platform by the end of 2014 among other initiatives.
It expressed the wilingness of the network to work closely with the ministry as always and urged the minister to continue with his open door policy to allow access to the media.
