The National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo has predicted a resounding victory for the party, come 2008 general elections. He said since Greater Accra is a determinant in winning elections in Ghana, this time round, NDC would win 16 out of the 27 constituencies. Mr. Ampofo said this at the NDC Ablekuma Central Constituency delegates congress at the weekend in Accra. He therefore advised the activists and the constituency executives to unite and present a formidable front for eventual success in the elections. Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, the National Youth Organiser of the NDC, also called on the teeming supporters to embark on a sustained campaign to enable the Party to achieve maximum support during the electioneering period and urged them to unite and be focused and decisive in their programmes. The candidate elect, Mr. Theophilus Chaie, an educationist got 109 votes out of 243 votes cast, followed by Mr Attuquaye Quaye who had 92 votes, Mr Gambo Iddrisu, 32 votes, Mr Godlove Quartey, seven votes, Madam Jane Oku, 3 votes and Mr. Joe Asaga, had no vote. Mr Chaie called for unity and cooperation from party members to ensure victory for the NDC and commended the delegates for ensuring a peaceful election and congratulated the other contestants for accepting defeat in good faith. He said he would define an agenda with the people so that together they would identify and prioritise the needs of the constituency. He said, “my overall idea is to improve the constituency by working with the people to think out solutions to perennial problems of the area.” Mr Chaie said when one represents the interest of the people, his policies and programmes would be pushed by them in the best interest for rapid development.
