Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, the deputy campaign coordinator for President John Mahama, has spoken on behalf of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), saying the party supports the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to adjourn voting until Saturday. The vote was disrupted in some parts of the country when some biometric verification machines, meant to ascertain the identity of voters, broke down. The EC had previously ordered that constituents not verified by machines not be allowed to vote, and in light of Friday’s technical difficulties it issued a directive to adjourn the vote in affected areas until Saturday with the hope that the malfunctioning devices will be fixed.Mr. Afriyie Ankrah announced that the NDC recognizes the EC’s authority to issue the directive and urges its supporters to respect the EC’s orders. He added that the party appreciates the sacrifices that its members have made thus far and that even though these electoral challenges were unanticipated, NDC supporters should remain calm.
