John Abdulai Jinapor, spokesperson for Vice President John Mahama, says the ruling NDC would continue to work assiduously to secure the votes of Ghanaians even though the latest polls by the Economic Intelligence Unit (EIU) tip President J.E.A Mills as winner of the December general elections.The latest EIU’s report released in January slightly favours President Mills ahead of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to win the December elections.The report said the favourable economic picture of high growth and relatively low inflation was certain to inure to the advantage of the ruling NDC.It further said 2016 could be a very different stage of development from now, providing that the oil boom was managed effectively, saying, “If this is the case, whoever wins at the December polls would have a strong chance of securing re-election.The NPP has rubbished the report stating that it is not a true reflection of the abject poverty the NDC has plunged the country into.The NPP argue that Ghanaians are disappointed in the Mills-led administration who promised a ‘Better Ghana’ but has now turned into a ‘Bitter Ghana’ with an upsurge in living conditions in the country.However speaking on Asempa FM’s Eksosii Sen programme Tuesday, John Jinapor said the ruling party despite welcoming the EIU report, is also aware it is not a panacea to winning the December elections.“Some of us are not going to depend on this polls; we would never tickle ourselves and laugh because we are very much aware that economic performance alone is not enough to win an election”.According to Jinapor, good economic indicators are not enough to win the NDC an election especially when the NPP is bent on ousting them from power hence they would leave no stone unturned in its bid to retain power in December.The Vice Presidential aide stated that the ruling party would from March this year embarked on serious campaigning across the country to propagate the sterling performance of President Mills in just three years in power.John Jinapor cautioned members of the NDC not to be complacent with the polls but rather see it as a source of motivation to campaign more in their various constituencies and propagate the many development projects initiated by the Mills-led administration ahead of the December elections.“Nobody should say ‘Agbenaa’; the battle is not ended until victory is declared”.John Jinapor bemoaned the seeming division in the NDC which he said could play to the advantage of the opposition and therefore urged all aggrieved party members to put their differences behind them to enable the party unite and fight a common cause in December.
