The Deputy National Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has assured that the party is well prepared to win the upcoming national presidential elections in 2024.
His conviction is is based on the leadership chosen by members to lead them into the national elections.
The secretary, who spoke in an interview on Joy Prime’s morning show, asserted that the current crop of party leaders are up for the task ahead.
"This year’s election had to do with branches. Branches took part in the election. So the grassroots of the party overwhelmingly endorsed a candidate. We’re very excited. It gives us a relief, and it states our case that beyond a bad economy, beyond NPP going to present stakeholders who have mismanaged the economy, the NDC is coming with a solid team," he assured.
He is confident that the party is in good shape, regardless of the fact that one of the presidential contenders, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, withrew from the race a day before the primaries.
The primaries saw some incumbent Members of Parliament lose their bid to once again represent their constituencies and the party at the 2024 general elections.
But the political enthusiast is optimistic that their replacements will equally do a good job for the party.
"Our win in 2024 is not negotiable; it cannot be compromised" he stated confidently.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) held its presidential and parliamentary primaries on Saturday, May 13, 2023, ahead of the 2024 elections.
Former President John Mahama won the votes of delegates as the flagbearer with a total of 297,603 votes, equivalent to 98.9% of the valid votes cast.
Mr. Gbande commended all party members for a well-organised and largely peaceful primaries.
He noted however, that 16 constituencies, including Ayawaso West Wuogon, are yet to elect their parliamentary candidates.
