The ruling National Democratic Congress has expressed concern over the High Court ruling that imposed an amount of GH¢2,400 fine on Raymond Archer, Managing editor of the Enquirer newspaper.Archer and his company, Focal Media Limited, were fined after publication by the newspaper on a case involving the former Foreign Minister Akwasi Osei Adjei, which, by the court’s decision was subjudice or calculated at prejudicing the court’s decision.Raymond Archer has to pay the said amount or face a jail term of two weeks if he fails to pay the money.Hours after Justice Bright Mensah read his sentence, the National Democratic Congress issued a press statement in solidarity with Mr Archer. In an interview with Joy News to shed more light on the statement, the Propaganda Secretary of the party Richard Quarshiga said they welcome the courts decision but are worried it will demoralize the young journalist whose credentials he said cannot be faulted. He stated that Raymond Archer’s outstanding performance has exposed lots of corrupt activities by public officials and urged him to be strong and not to recoil.Richard Quashiga took a swipe at the opposition New Patriotic Party for proceeding to court to seek judgement over such an issue after claiming to be apostles of freedom of speech.Asked if Raymond Archer is working for the NDC, the propaganda secretary retorted, saying Archer is not like some journalists who have been accused by an audit report for taking money from the previous government.Archer is not a charlatan journalist, he emphasised.
