The National Campaign Manager of President Mills' Campaign Team, Mr. J. H. Owusu-Acheampong, has said delegates across the country have appreciated the team's message of the president's intention to stake yet another claim to the party's flagbearership position.
According to him, the team had made delegates realise that President Mills was the only high profile candidate within the NDC now who could defeat the New Patriotic Party presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo in the 2012 presidential election.Mr. Owusu-Acheampong, was speaking to the Daily Graphic via a telephone interview from the Brong-Ahafo Region where he is currently leading a team to interact with delegates in the various constituencies in the region."We informed the delegates that the only person who could thwart the chances of the NPP to wrest power from our hands was President Mills, who is perceived as a humble and modest personality by the electorate," the member of the Council of State said.Mr. Owusu-Acheampong , who was also a Minister of State under the Rawlings administration, explained that President Mills had demonstrated beyond doubt that he is a remarkable personality who does not allow his emotions to take centre stage in appraising issues."The temperament of presidential candidates goes a long way to inform the electorate on who they should choose as a President during general elections and I dare to state that President Mills has profoundly exhibited that quality," he said.He said President Mills had scored high marks in allowing his maturity to prevail in the face of the wanton criticisms by functionaries of his own party and also the opposition.
"President Mills has always remained calm and composed despite the name-calling and deliberate manufacture of wicked stories against him," Mr. Owusu-Acheampong said.He said the team had encouraged the delegates to settle on President Mills as the presidential candidate of the NDC for the 2012 elections when the party goes to congress in July."President Mills has the good will of the electorate to retain political power for the party in next year's presidential election", he said.Mr. Owusu-Acheampong pointed out that the team catalogued a number of projects that the government had implemented in the region and elsewhere in the country for which they were highly appreciative. The Mills national campaign team manager said the team had vibrant discussions with the delegates concerning the revitalisation of the structures and the need to strengthen the communication machinery of the party.Source: Daily Graphic/Ghana
