The Agona West Constituency branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said that no member of the party had defected to any other political party.
Mr. Musah Kwame Donkoh, Constituency Chairman and Mr Alfred Amponsah, Constituency Coordinator, told the GNA after they visited Agona Nkum to ascertain a defection story in the media said it was not true that 40 members of the party had defected to the NPP.
Mr. Donkor described the defection story as falsehood and lies and propaganda made by the New Patriotic Party to score cheap political points and confuse the people.
The Chairman said the so-called defectors were not known in the Area.
He said it was only the Ward Vice-Chairman, Mr. Thomas Otsiwah who had decided about two months ago to leave the party but he has not officially written to inform the NDC to that effect.
The chairman said the NDC would not be surprised to learn that Mr. Otsiwah had joined the NPP because his wife is a strong NPP supporter.
He stressed that the defection story was part of NPP calculated attempt to throw dust into the eyes of Ghanaians who are eager to vote massively against NPP in the 2008 elections.
The Chairman said the constituency branch has just ended the election of ward executives to prepare grounds for the election of Parliamentary candidate for 2008 election.
