Foot soldiers of the ruling National Democratic Congress at the Afram Plains in the Eastern Region are threatening to resign from the party if the District Chief Executive of the area is not sacked from office.
According to Ishmael Nana Yaw who is the leader of the foot soldiers, the DCE, Charles Evans Apraku campaigned against the party during the 2008 election and has since his appointment into office done nothing to improve the lives of the constituents.
He also accused the DCE of neglect and living an ostentatious lifestyle when his constituents live in poverty.
“The man is not patriotic for the people at the area, he always campaigned against the people, he doesn’t visit the people,” Ishmael Nana Yaw told Citi News.
The foot soldiers numbering about 400 say they will embark on a demonstration on Monday to draw government’s attention to their grievances and resign en bloc if the DCE is still retained at post.
The action by the Afram plains foot soldiers comes just a day after the vice president, John Mahama, had criticized the actions of the foot soldiers, accusing them of not sacrificing enough for the party.
Cadres and supporters of the NDC across the country have gained notoriety for seizing public toilets and offices over what they say is government’s failure to address their needs.
Meanwhile, the Afram plains DCE has denied the allegations made against him.
Mr Evans Apraku said the accusations are nothing but fabrications meant to tarnish his reputation.
According to him, the leader of the foot soldiers approached him requesting an amount of GH¢700.00 but was unable to provide and that was the beginning of his problems
He accused Nana Yaw of blackmailing him.
