Samuel Abu Jinapor, an aide to the New Patriotic Party flag bearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, has admonished the executives of the NPP to let go the contested “People Matter, You Matter” slogan which the ruling NDC are also claiming ownership of. He said the much contested “People Matter, You Matter” has long been the title of the NPP's 2012 elections manifesto which is yet to be launched. He stated that although the manifesto was not a public document, it was neither a secret document as it had been circulated to major stakeholders for their input. Speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo Monday morning, Abu Jinapor said when the issue of the ownership of the slogan broke out, he was of the view that the NPP should stick to its gun and use the contested slogan as the name of the yet-to-be launched manifesto. Abu Jinapor, however, added that after last Saturday’s campaign launch of Presidential aide, Nii Lantey Vanderpuiye, NDC parliamentary candidate for Ododiodoo, where the slogan was widely used, he has advised his party to forget about the slogan and find a new one. He asserted that the NDC had “bastardized” the slogan, therefore, it would be inappropriate if the NPP should proceed with it. Mr Jinapor said the record of the NDC in government did not merit the “People Matter, You matter” slogan. He added after paying huge dubious judgment debts, the NDC could not turn around and say Ghanaians matter to them. According to him, the NPP regime came out with policies that were people centered, citing the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty, National Health Insurance Scheme, National Youth Employment Programme, Free Maternity Programme amongst others. The MP for Adentan Constituency, Kojo Adu-Asare questioned why the NPP did not make public the title of their manifesto but only started making claims when the NDC started using the slogan. The Adentan MP said the NDC as a party had always been a party which was centered around people hence their slogan and that the NPP should just concede and leave the slogan for them.
