The NDC on Tuesday said it had turned the NPP's claim that the Brong Ahafo was their “World Bank” into a “rural bank”.Mr John Dramani Mahama, running mate to Professor John Atta Mills, flag-bearer of the NDC said: "I am convinced that the large crowds which have been giving us rousing welcomes even in torrential rains were so convincing that the NPP's gimmick of underrating us is a mere speculation and slogan.”Mr Mahama who was addressing separate rallies at Abease, Zamrama, Yeji, Prang on his 10-day campaign tour of Brong Ahafo said: "The surprising thing is that some towns and villages which we do not have on our itinnery literarily ‘ambushed’ us at night and sometimes pleaded to listen to our message and shouted the slogan that ‘Afedie yesesa’ meaning ‘this year we will change things.’"My main concern was the thousands of youth in whose faces I see deep concern and love who are mostly unemployed."That is the more reason why the NDC said it would give hope to the hopeless, create jobs for the jobless and would ensure that Ghanaians do not get discouraged in politicians who only give them false promises during campaign periods.”Mr Mahama said the promise that Prof. Atta Mills had made to the people that he would make F-CUBE absolutely free and provide free school uniforms to pupils was attainable.He said the NDC would revitalize the local cotton industry to produce the raw materials for tailors and seamstresses to sew school uniforms in their localities.Mr Mahama reiterated that the NDC would ensure that this year's election was held in peace and declared that the NDC would win the 2008 December elections and form the next government under Professor Mills.He appealed to the supporters to remain vigilant so that they would not be cheated out, while ensuring the peace needed for the country's development.Mr. Johnson Aseidu Nketia, General Secretary of the NDC, said it was surprising that some of the development projects initiated by the NDC during their time had either been abrogated or put under conditions which were not the real programmes that would ensure equitable distribution of national wealth.He appealed to the NDC supporters not to surrender their voter ID cards to anybody under the promise of securing them loans.Mr Nketia urged all those who had attained 18 years and above to register when the voters’ register was opened at the end of the month.Source: GNA
