Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has been overwhelmingly and unanimously endorsed as running mate for the ruling party National Democratic Congress (NDC).He will be outdoored later, Tuesday at a ceremony to consolidate the party’s crusade for re-election in December.Campaign coordinator Elvis Afriyie Ankrah confirmed this in an interview with Joy News’ Araba Koomson shortly after the National Executive Committee of the party endorsed the running mate to President John Mahama.“This means we are set and ready for campaign,” he added.A minority group within the ruling party protested the nomination of the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana as vice-president shortly after the elevation of then Vice-President John Mahama as president. The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr. Victor Smith, questioned the viability of Mr Arthur as a running mate if he was endorsed to partner the party's candidate. He later apologized for his comments and pledged his support for the vice president.Elvis Afriyie Ankrah said the endorsement of Vice President Amissah-Arthur came without the slightest protestation.“There was total and absolute support for Amissah-Arthur,” he noted, adding the candidate has played a tremendous role in the successes chalked up by the Provisional National Defence Council as well as the ruling National Democratic Congress. He said Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur will be crucial in the party’s bid to retain power.
