The Eastern Regional chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress [NDC] Mr. Julius Debrah has stated that the party needs better candidates to contest their major opponent; that is the NPP in the Eastern Region in order to win more seats in the 2012 parliamentary elections. According him, the Eastern Region which has been described as the strong hold of the New Patriotic Party by many political pundits, would need more dynamic, affable, experienced intelligent politicians and strategists, to face the NPP if the party is bent on retaining power and win more parliamentary seats come 2012. In view of this, Mr. Julius Debrah who is also a major contender in the NDC parliamentary primaries in the Suhum, noted that more NDC big shorts who hail from the Eastern Region are being encouraged to contest in the parliamentary elections to match the New Patriotic Party in their strong holds boot for boot. He cited the Eastern Regional Minister Dr Akyem Appiah Kubi, Deputy Information Minister Baba Jamal, Deputy eastern regional minister Mr. Okletey Teye Larbi, Deputy Environment Minister Dr. Omane Boamah among a host of government appointees, who are contesting in the parliamentary elections. To this effect he called on the delegates to consider him and vote massively for him in the parliamentary primaries in Suhum in order to unseat the sitting New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament. Mr. Julius Debrah made the disclosure at a well attended durbar to launch his campaign for the Suhum Constituency Parliamentary Primaries of the NDC on Thursday. Julius Debrah, who also doubles as the Chief Executive of Ghana Tourist Board, hinted that, even though the basic responsibility of every MP is to help in the formulation of laws and facilitate development in his area, he will dwell on the individual development and invest in people when he gets the mandate to represent the people of Suhum in Parliament. He cautioned his followers to desist from campaign and politics of attacks and insults, but rather tell the delegates his track records in the NDC.
