Members of the NDC Old Guards Association in the Ashanti Region have pledged their unflinching support to President John Evans Atta Mills to lead the party to the 2012 general elections.
According to them, the successes achieved by the President in a relatively short period in office, coupled with the number of initiatives underway to improve the socio-economic and political lives of Ghanaians, oblige ‘all true party members’ to rally behind him to lead the party in the next elections to complete his better Ghana agenda.
Oheneba Asamoah Atuahene, Chairman of the Association, stated this at the monthly meeting of the Association in Kumasi during the weekend.
He said it would be an illusion for any member to think that a new flag-bearer would be able to win power for the party in 2012.Oheneba Atuahene said Professor Mills is systematically working to translate his vision into concrete actions and cited the recent financial support announced by the Chinese Government and companies as some of the initiatives that would go a long way to boost the President’s Better Ghana Agenda.
He said the Old Guards Association has been formed to rally support from old grass root members of the NDC to canvass support in their communities to ensure that the party succeeds in governance and continue its stay in power beyond 2012.
Mr Ibrahim Omar, the Ashanti Regional Coordinator of the National Youth Employment Programme, briefed members of the Association on the various modules which have been introduced into the programme, saying the aim is to increase enrolment to provide jobs for more people.
He advised members to encourage their children to register and benefit from the programme.
Mr Yaw Barimah, Organiser of the Association, appealed to members to work hard to bring more souls into their fold, adding that the task ahead is for them to canvass enough support for the party to win the 2012 elections.Warrant Officer (rtd) Afoakwa Duah, the Vice Chairman, said the Association is currently engaged in effective community organization, and that it aims to open branches in all regions and districts to bring all old members together to work to ensure victory for the party in 2012.Source: GNA
