Nii Nortey Dua, MP for Ledzokuku in Accra, has on behalf of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), extended his appreciation to the electorate for voting massively for him to win the parliamentary seat in the December election.
He also thanked the electorate for increasing the votes of Professor John Evans Atta Mills by more than 3,000 in the presidential run-off to ensure that he won the presidency.
The new MP pledged that he would rely on the grace of God Almighty as he teams up with the electorate to advocate the development of the Constituency.
Nii Nortey expressed his appreciation as he addressed a milling crowd of party members, fans, supporters and sympathizers at the Teshie North Cluster of Schools Park in Accra at a thanksgiving rally on Sunday after a procession through the principal streets of the town.
“I will, by the grace of God, and in the name of Jesus Christ, team up with you for development of the constituency. I need your co-operation. I well team up with all the Assemblymen in our development efforts,” Nii Dua said.
He identified water scarcity as the number one problem of the constituency, and said he had already begun a process to bring the problem under control.
Nii Nortey said he was in talks with two different NGOs in the United Kingdom and Germany on ways to improve the water situation.
Some pipes laid eight years ago are inactive because they have not been linked to any of the main supply lines.
Nii Nortey said he had started discussions with Scancom and the Ghana Water Company to have these pipes linked to a main at the Spintex Road.
He said former officers and fieldsmen of the Ghana Water Company resident in the constituency had assured him of their support in the water improvement project.
Nii Dua pleaded with the people to forge ahead in unity, be patient and cooperate with him as he worked on the problems in the Constituency.
The MP, who is also a former Presiding Member of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, assured the people that he would continue from where his predecessor MPs left off.
He promised to put in place what he termed the Ledzokuku Parliament which would bring on board all the political parties that contested the last elections and representatives of identifiable groups to deliberate on issues that affected the town.
