The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed shock at the call by the Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party(NPP), Jake Obetsebi Lamptey that the police should arrest NDC members who have made statements similar to those made by Hon. Kennedy Agyapong to prove that the police are not pursuing selective justice.In a statement signed by Richard Quashigah, NDC Propaganda Secretary, the NDC challenged the NPP to prove that John Asiedu Nketiah said that there will be civil war should electronic verification be used in the December elections.The statement further said that if members of any political party deserve to be arrested for making seditious and inflammatory comments close to that made by Ken Agyapong, then it is Jake Obetsebi who the statement said called on Ashantis to demonstrate courage as their counterparts in Ivory Coast did through force of arms.The statement further added the NPP flag bearer Akuffo Addo, who they said urged Akan youths to take up arms against the established and accepted status quo and if they die in the process it does not matter because ‘All die be die’.According to the NDC, those who lead the pack to be arrested include, Anthony Karbo, whose is reported to have said that ‘Ghana would be like Afghanistan if NPP is not declared winners in the December elections’, Peter Mark Manu (former Chairman-NPP) who is said to have called for the use of guns in jungle-like warfare, and Sammy Awuku, who charged on TESCON members to ready themselves for violence. It must be reiterated that Jake’s infamy for violence and his stupendous lies are not lost on us.According to the statement, the NPP by its character and historical antecedents is not democratic neither does it subject itself to agreed norms and values that hold groups with divergent views in the society together.The statement went on to say that anytime the NPP feels disadvantaged by accepted societal norms and values, it sets aside laid down rules and proceed with jungle law. It added that the forebears of the NPP having failed with the ‘Matemeho’ agenda gave Ghana’s first President Kwame Nkrumah sleepless nights through attempts on his life and a series of state destabilization activities.According to the NDC, paws of the NPP have not changed from those of its forebears; judging from the kind of nation wrecking comments that are made consistently by its leaders and the wobbling illogical and insulting justifications adduced for them anytime they are confronted. The NDC said that the conscious effort to worship violence and lawlessness as in the case of the Ken Agyapong by the NPP is terribly nauseating. The statement said that the glorification of villainy and support for call to arms by the NPP is a real danger to the sustenance of peace in this country; peace which is needed for the much craved development and societal forward march.The statement added that NPP should rather apologize to Ghanaians and demonstrate that they hold dear the peace of this nation rather than seeking a non- existent political equalization.The statement reiterated the NDC’s commitment and support to the police administration to carry out its professional duties without fear or favour in the maintenance of law and order.
