The NDC’s National Executive Committee has sought to strip party member and Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai MP Moses Armah of his parliamentary post, citing his failure to fulfill his national service requirement.
In a Tuesday press release, the party announced that the Constituency Executive Committee would conduct an emergency primary election in the constituency on Wednesday, October 17.
Armah’s lawyers have struck back, arguing that he is entitled to postpone his service because he is in the midst of postgraduate studies and insisting that the authority to remove Armah from office rests with the courts, not the party.
Until a court finds him guilty and meriting removal, they said, he will remain the duly elected MP and any premature move to replace him will be stopped through due process.
The lawyers also blamed the Service Secretariat for failing to issue Armah a Service PIN in 2008, contending that the delay impeded his ability to perform the services in question.
