The National Democratic Congress,NDC, Canada branch over the weekend organized series of activities in Toronto, Ontario to sensitize Ghanaians living in Toronto area on the problems confronting Ghana as a nation and asked them to rally behind the NDC Leader Prof. John Atta Mills and his Vice Presidential Candidate, Hon John Dramani Mahama towards a massive win for the NDC in the general elections scheduled for December 7, 2008. This, according to the party, will restore the nation back on track and change the tune of the "corrupt and incompetent NPP leadership Ghanaians have known for the past 7 years."The activities started with a talk show program on CHR Radio at York University. The NDC National Organizer Hon Samuel Ofosu Ampofo was the guest on African Sun Splash Program. NDC Canada Executives accompanied him.Hon Ofosu Ampofo said the NPP government led by President Kufour has failed Ghanaians. NPP’s wrong choices and bad policies for the last 7 years have left our nation with problems including corruption, lack of basic amenities like water, the collapse of the energy sector, lack of jobs, healthcare, crushing educational system, cocaine everywhere, and armed robbery among others. While majority of Ghanaians can barely get a meal a day, members of President Kufour’s NPP government are looting the nation’s scare resources waa waa waa for their personal pockets, building Presidential Palace and purchasing Presidential Jets. Ghanaians indeed deserve better he said.Ghana needs a selfless leader who cares about the Ghanaian people and who has a sense of urgency to solve the problems hanging over the neck of Ghana like an albatross. It is time for a leader who would listen to the Ghanaian people. He said the NDC in opposition has learnt lessons from the mistakes made while the party was in government. He stressed that a new NDC government led by Prof John Atta Mills will bring on board a new vision to transform Ghana into a nation we can all be proud of again. He therefore, asked Ghanaians to give the NDC a chance to form the next government and correct the wrongs going on in Ghana today.On ROPAL, he said NDC is not against the law in principle but the law as it now stands is a recipe for disaster. Ghana is not ready for the implementation of ROPAL. The NDC he said will continue to work with Ghanaians everywhere to make sure that the right policies are implemented to make Ghana a better nation for all Ghanaians home and abroad.Several Ghanaians who called in when the phone lines were opened wanted to know what NDC would do differently in fighting corruption, the cocaine menace, education, energy crisis, healthcare, water and other needs of the Ghanaian people. Hon Samuel Ofosu Ampofo articulated NDC’s agenda for 2008 elections. He said the new NDC agenda as arrived at from careful consultation with Ghanaians from all walks of life and is concentrated around four major pillars: • Investing in People • Job Creation and A Strong Economy • Expanding Infrastructure and • An Open and Transparent GovernmentThe day’s events ended with a dinner dance organized for the NDC family. It was attended by NDC members from Montreal and Toronto branches of NDC Canada. Other dignitaries who attended the program include Ghana’s Consular-General for Toronto, Mr. Kwabena Asare, Hon Ofosu Ampofo, Hon Akwasi Boateng a former Member of Parliament, Mr. Kofi Sordzi NDC Canada Chairman and other NDC Canada Executives. The invited guests took turns to advise Ghanaians to be tolerant of each other and to work towards a peaceful, free and fair election in December. The seminar was intended to train NDC members in Canada on the responsibilities of Polling Agents so as to ensure peaceful, free and fair elections.
