The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) will soon announce a date for its presidential primaries. Even though the party is yet to officially open nominations, there have been subtle public campaigns by groups backing incumbent president Atta Mills and his vice John Mahama on one hand and former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings on the other. NDC General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, tells Joy News the party’s National Executive Committee(NEC) is already working on a proposal. He hoped to submit proposals to the NEC of the party for adoption relative to the various levels of elections to be undertaken. Mr Asiedu Nketia said the first elections will be to select parliamentary candidates for the party in orphan constituencies, and that will be followed by the election of parliamentary candidates for constituencies where the party has sitting Members of Parliament (MPs). Eventually, the delegates’ congress to elect a flag-bearer for the 2012 elections will then follow. The General Secretary believes by the end of the year, all three elections would have been conducted. Source: Joy News/Ghana
