The Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ho Central Constituency, Mawunyo Agbe, has announced the party’s intentions to amend portions of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution to reflect the aspirations of Ghanaians.
Speaking during a victory walk organised by Ho Central MP-elect Edem Kpotosu and the NDC on Saturday, December 14, Mr Agbe emphasised the party’s readiness to leverage their parliamentary majority for legislative reforms.
“Now, with the absolute majority that Ghanaians have given us, this places us in a position to push for constitutional amendments,” he said.
He underscored that the NDC’s parliamentary caucus comprises competent and experienced legislators who were ready to use their numbers to advance Ghana’s development.
“From the first MP to the last, our team demonstrates absolute competence,” he added.
Mr. Agbe noted that the NDC, which played a pivotal role in drafting the 1992 Constitution, was well-placed to lead efforts to amend it.
He acknowledged that some provisions of the Constitution no longer served the country’s needs, adding that many Ghanaians had called for these changes.
“The Constitution we birthed in 1992 has served its purpose, but we have also identified challenges. Ghanaians are calling for reforms, and we will take the necessary steps to address their concerns while carrying the whole nation along,” he said.
Mr. Agbe assured Ghanaians that the NDC would not take the trust reposed in them for granted.
“This victory is not just for us but for the people who believe in us. We will respect them, engage them daily, and ensure transparency in our governance,” he stated.
He emphasized the need for innovation and creativity in governance, pointing out that these were key elements of the NDC’s campaign strategy.
“Our campaign introduced fresh ideas and creativity that we will carry into our administration. Young people will also play key roles in managing the affairs of the country,” he said.
The MP-elect for Ho Central, Mr Edem Kpotosu, expressed gratitude to his constituents for their unwavering support, which led to his decisive victory.
He urged supporters to remain calm and avoid any acts of violence.
“Do not engage in violence. After the inauguration, the outgoing officials will vacate their offices, so there is no need to force anything now,” he said.
Mr. Kpotosu also outlined his commitment to lobbying for investment in Ho, the Volta Region’s capital, to spur regional development.
“As the capital city, Ho must lead in attracting investments that other constituencies in the region can benefit from,” he said.
The victory walk, which started at the party’s constituency office and ended at the Ho Central Market, attracted hundreds of supporters, including constituency executives.
It marked a moment of celebration for the party while reaffirming its commitment to the people of Ho Central and Ghana at large.
