The Youth Wing of the ruling National Democratic Congress [NDC] has climaxed its activities for 2010 with a Public Forum of the Tertiary Education Institutions Network [TEIN] at Ho Polytechnic under the theme, “Setting the Records Straight Part II". The well attended forum attracted students, regional executives, sympathizers and the general public. Mr. Andrews Nettey, Ho Poly TEIN President, in delivering his Welcome address, thanked the National Youth Oraganiser, Ludwig Akpene Hlodze, for his selfless contribution to the development of the Youth Wing so far. He recounted the successes chalked up at the just ended National TEIN Conference in Winneba and encouraged his colleagues all over the country to continuously support the activities of the party, especially the Youth Wing. He stated that the theme for the forum, “Setting the records Straight Part II” was strategically chosen to let the youth of Ghana distinguish between the good works of the Mills government from the vile propaganda of the opposition NPP whose only ambition is to pull this government down. Honorable Joseph Amenowode, the Volta Regional Minister assured the good people of the Volta Region that government is on track in delivering on promises it made to the Region especially in the area of education and infrastructure. He informed the forum that the sod cutting for the commencement of work on the Volta University project will soon be done by His Excellency President John Evans Atta Mills and initial admissions of about 400 students will be done by September 2011 into two campuses in Ho and Hohoe. Mr. Simon Viglo-Amegashie, The NDC Volta Regional Secretary also asked the youth of the party to remain steadfast in their support for the government and the party. The Youth, he said, must constantly engage with their leadership in seeking redress to grievances and must desist from acts that tarnish the reputation of the party. The National Youth Organizer, Mr. Ludwig Akpene Hlodze, reiterated the need for the Youth of the party to rededicate themselves to the spirit of sacrifice and Volunteerism, the virtues upon which the NDC was established as a social democratic party. He tasked TEIN members to seek knowledge and be ready to share same with their constituencies upon a successful completion of their programmes at school. “What the NDC needs is a storehouse of intelligent and knowledgeable youthful activists who are ready with information on the party and must ensure that they educate their communities with the ideals of the party to ensure a perpetual promotion and sustenance of the political ethos of the NDC”, Ludwig stated. Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Deputy Minister of Information, used the occasion to speak on achievements of government in the last 2 years as contained in the “Top 50 Achievements” of His Excellency President John Evans Atta Mills’ administration. Other speakers at the Forum included, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Deputy Minister for Science, Environment and Technology and Honourable Henry Ford Kamel, Deputy Minister for Lands, Forestry and Minerals Resources. Dr. Omane Boamah spoke on government affordable housing projects and the economic gains chalked under the Mills led administration. On the area of Agriculture, he reminded the forum, that in Ghana’s history, it is the first time that cocoa farmers are being compensated with the highest producer price for a sack of cocoa. This, he noted, speaks volumes of government investment in the agricultural sector and the 20 months downward trend of inflation is a clear manifestation of the success in the area of agriculture and tasked the youth to go into farming and other agric as a sustainable employment avenue. Ludwig Akpene Hlodze, NDC National Youth Organiser, declared the forum as the climax of 2010 NDC Youth Wing activities and promised of exciting programmes in the coming year. He thanked the youth of the party for their steadfastness in 2010. He said that same spirit will be needed to march on into 2011 with a new focus at making the party more attractive to the youth of Ghana. The team later visited the Volta Regional Chairman of the NDC who could not attend the programme on health grounds to wish him a speedy recovery. Source: Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
