A group of young men believed to be supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) from Sankore in Asunafo South District of Brong-Ahafo last Friday locked up the offices of the District Assembly at Kukuom.
This prevented the District Chief Executive, Mr. Fleance Danso and other officials from accessing their offices to perform official duties.
Sources at Kukuom told the Ghana News Agency that the youth took the action in protest against the failure of the DCE to influence the release of some party supporters who had been remanded in prison custody due to political hostilities at Sankore.
The sources said the angry youth had insisted that “since the NDC is government in power, the DCE should be instrumental in the release of the supporters in custody”.
The DCE later confirmed the action of the youth in an interview with the Ghana News Agency and said he also heard the news on a local FM radio on Friday that some youth from Sankore had closed down the office thereby making it impossible for the workers to access their offices.
Mr Danso said he had made an official report to the Police at Kukuom for the restoration of peace and order in the area.Source: GNA
