Youth supporting the National Democratic Congress in the Northern Regional capital, Tamale, are reported to be on rampage, defacing campaign posters of the party’s presidential candidate, Prof John Evans Atta-Mills.They are also damaging party property. The youth who massed up at the party office, say their action is to protest the alleged choice of MP for Bole Bamboi, John Mahama as running mate for Prof Mills for the 2008 presidential elections. They want a Moslem for the slot, and specifically, a former running mate of Prof Mills in the 2004 presidential race, Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni. One of the rampaging youth, Abubakari Yakubu said the slot should go to a Moslem otherwise they would advise themselves.Party officials in Accra told Joy News they have been made aware of the situation and were taking steps to address it. Meanwhile the office has been shut.Several newspapers on Monday announced that Professor Mills had settled on John Mahama, and on Tuesday, several others, including the state-owned Daily Graphic, published stories to corroborate the John Mahama candidature. On Monday, a member of the Professor Mills’ campaign team, Mahama Ayariga had denied that John Mahama or indeed anyone had been selected yet.
