The Member of Parliament for Lower Manya, Michael Teye Nyaunu who is seeking re-election as an independent candidate has described the NDC’s decision to sack the entire party executives in his constituency as an act of desperation.The Eastern regional branch of the party has sanctioned the constituency executives for openly declaring their support for Mr Nyaunu in contravention of the party’s constitution.But the outspoken MP who has been very critical of government maintains their allegations are false because the affected members are not part of his campaign team.Mr. Nyaunu tells Joy News irrespective of the diabolical acts hatched against him, he will beat the NDC candidate, Oketey Teye Larbi who is also the deputy Regional Minister.Describing the move as unfortunate, the MP insisted that he has never held any “secret meeting” with the suspended executives, but was quick to add that if the people had indeed supported his candidacy, “they are entitled to that because nobody is paying anybody in the party , it’s an organisation they chose to join”.He said the parliamentary candidate for the party in the Lower Manya constituency was “imposed” on them.“It is a desperate position, it is a frustrating position, and it is a disappointed position that they have taken.”But the Eastern regional Secretary of the party insists the suspended members are guilty. Mathew Doe says their decision has been communicated to the disciplinary committee of the party for further action.He also denied that the party's parliamentary candidate Oketey Teye Larbi was imposed on them.“No candidate was imposed on the constituency, so if he is coming out with that assertion, in the first place that is wrong, the delegates voted and at the end of the day the best candidate won.”In a related development, the Komenda Edina Eguasfo Abrem constituency in the Central region, some regional executives have openly declared support for Dr Ato Quarshie who is also contesting the seat as an independent candidate.General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah tells Joy News they are working hard to resolve all differences and the party will make its final decision known at a news conference next week.
