The National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) ‘Resetting Ghana manifesto’ will result in the cancellation of the nursing trainee allowance should the NDC win power, according to Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Vice Presidential Candidate,
said the NDCs manifesto’ simply means all policies by the NPP, which are improving the lives of the people, would be scrapped under an NDC administration.
Speaking at the Pantang Nursing and Midwifery Training College, he said the NDC’s Resetting Ghana manifesto means the cancellation of nurses' trainee allowance and all other NPP policies to better the lives of the people.
“The NDCs manifesto will pose a great threat to the nursing trainee allowance in particular because they (NDC) don’t subscribe to that laudable programme”, the NPP vice presidential candidate cautioned.
Dr. Prempeh, who is nicknamed aka ‘Napo’ also pointed out that the NDCs flip-flopping position on the nursing trainee allowance alone is a strong indication that they NDC would definitely cancel the positive policy.
“I fear for our nursing trainees in the country because if the NDC mistakenly captured political power, they would instantly scrap the nursing trainee allowance, which provides financial support for you in school.
“It’s because the NDC doesn’t support the nursing trainee allowance, that is why they (NDC) continue to make contradicting public statements about the commendable policy”, Dr. Prempeh observed.
According to Napo, the NDC, from the look of things, doesn’t have the interest of nurses and nursing trainees in the country at heart, so he entreated nurses and nursing trainees to vote against the NDC.
“The NPP has since 2017 employed 150,000 nurses. About two months ago, we (NPP) went to parliament to employ more nurses and teachers in the country, but the NDC strongly kicked against the idea”.
Napo stated emphatically that the NPP is the only political party in the country that has concrete plans to generally improve the health sector through the provision of modern infrastructure, comparable to international standards.
“The Nana Akufo-Addo-Bawumia NPP government has built hospitals and also provided 13,000 beds to existing hospitals as a way of making patients feel comfortable in the various hospitals whilst seeking treatment.
“Thirty of the Agenda 111 hospitals in some parts of the country have been completed, and they would be handed over next month. This is another sign of the NPP’s commitment to ensure proper health care for Ghanaians”.
Napo said Ghana’s health sector always improves under the NPP government, reminding the people that the famous National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) was also introduced by ex-President Kufuor’s NPP administration.
He concluded by announcing that the Dr. Bawumia also has better plans to improve the health sector further, urging the electorates to vote massively to retain NPP in political office on December 7.
