Former People’s National Convention Member of Parliament for Zebilla in the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region, John Ndebugri, says he ‘will not refuse to contest’ the Zebilla parliamentary seat if New Patriotic Party members in the constituency see him a good enough material to stand.
“I now belong to the New Patriotic Party and if the members of the New Patriotic Party in the Zebilla Constituency are minded to nominate me to be their candidate for the party in 2012, I will not refuse to contest,” he told joy FM’s Fiifi Koomson.
John Ndebugri is a member of the opposition NPP after defecting from the PNC in November of 2009. He filed on Saturday to contest to be elected assemblyman for the Timonde electoral area in the Bawku West District.
Mr. Ndebugri until his official defection to the NPP lost as an independent parliamentary candidate in the Zebilla Constituency in the 2008 elections to majority leader Cletus Avoka.
Asked if he did not find his interest in the assembly election as a demotion, Ndebugri said it cannot be a demotion because serving as an opportunity to serve the people.
“It’s all about representation and really if you want to get involved in the development process, you need to get involved at the level of the assembly.”
“My motivation is that we need to improve the quality of debates at the assembly level if you want to lift the people and reduce poverty and so on…So I want to go into the assembly and assist the community to fight poverty,” he emphasized.
