Delegates of the National Democratic Party (NDP) are in Kumasi for their congress to elect a presidential candidate for the December elections.
The party is hoping to host more than seven thousand delegates at the Baba Yara stadium later today.
Former first lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings is tipped to win the slot.
Her husband, former president Jerry John Rawlings is the special guest speaker for the congress.
NDP Youth Leader, Dr David Sunu, told Joy News announcements of resignations by two leading members and regional executives in the northern and upper east regions on the eve of the congress will not affect the program.
He said “the teeming supporters [of the NDP] are eager to have this congress happen” and therefore the few compromised ones in their fold cannot frustrate their efforts.
“…Since one, two or three persons cannot stop what the masses want; it is going to happen and come to pass,” he observed.
Meanwhile executives of the ruling NDC have confirmed Mrs. Rawlings has tendered in her resignation letter to officially sever relations with the party.
