A leading member of the Convention People's Party (CPP), Professor Agyeman Badu Akosa has blamed the brouhaha in the party on Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, a former presidential candidate of the party who is still aspiring to lead in that capacity.
"There is only one problem in the CPP and that problem is Paa Kwesi Nduom,” said Prof. Akosa, who claimed that the day Nduom leaves the CPP, an amazing number of people would join the party.
Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom incurred the wrath of some party executives including chairperson, Samia Yaba Nkrumah for allegedly instigating agitations in the CPP.
The flagbearer aspirant, according to Samia Nkrumah, is behind attempts by some party members to discredit the current National Executives because they insist on late presidential primaries next year.
Samia said Dr. Nduom could be expelled from the CPP if he continued to violate the rules and regulations of the party and that the party could no longer bear his 'nonsense'.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday, Prof. Akosa said he was very proud of Samia Nkrumah for taking a bold step on Dr. Nduom who is no bigger than party.
According to him, Samia bit the bullet and did something which no Chairman in the CPP has been able to do.
Prof. Akosa noted that Dr. Nduom even after a woeful performance as the flagbearer of the CPP in the 2008 general elections, blamed everybody in the party except himself for that shameful 1.3 percent performance.
The CPP capo in his candid opinion said Dr. Nduom and his family should have rendered an unqualified apology to the party after the 2008 elections instead of playing the blame game.
He could not fathom why Dr. Nduom insists on contesting the flagbearership position after the abysmal performance in 2008.
Akosa, a prospective flagbearer aspirant of the CPP said it would be the worst decision for the party to go to an early congress to elect a flagbearer.
He noted that the CPP can increase its electoral fortunes in 2012 if party structures at the grassroots are made solid.
The former Ghana Health Service boss observed that the CPP with the current National Executives, would present a formidable, credible and incorruptible candidate as flagbearer in 2012.
“We want to be a credible party that is moving and giving alternative views for the advancement of this country. CPP is the common people’s party that was formed for the advancement of the welfare of the people of this country.”
Reacting to allegations that he is manipulating Samia Nkrumah to ruin the presidential ambition of Dr. Nduom, Prof Akosa said the party Chair is not a malleable person to kowtow to the desires of any individual within the party.
He said such an allegation should be treated with the contempt it deserves since it is being fueled by a “pro-Nduom" group within the CPP.
Prof. Akosa stated that it is the responsibility of every member of the CPP to defend their chairperson if her personality is under attack.
