2008 Presidential Candidate of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom says he will do ‘a second commissioning’ ceremony on the day Mallam-Tetteh Quarshie motorway will be officially commissioned. Dr. Nduom said he is proud that through his enterprise, the road was included in the Millennium Challenge Account agreement, with the aim of linking pineapple growers in the Central region to the Kotoka International Airport. Speaking on Ekosii Sen on Asempa FM, hours after launching his bid to run for the CPP’s Presidential slot ahead of the 2012 general elections, Dr. Kwesi Nduom stated that, many who did not follow his works have refused to acknowledge his achievements when he served as a Minister in the erstwhile Kufuor administration. He said some of his achievements during the time were policies such as Single Spine Salary Structure, Model Senior High Schools and the inclusion of construction of two ferries on the Volta Lake to augment transportation; the ferries are now being constructed with Landing Sites with funds from the Millennium Challenge Account. Dr. Nduom who denied campaigning for President J. A Kufuor in the 2004 elections explained that he is happy he came up with such policies as Single Spine Salary Structure which has now received the blessings of all Civil servants, though there have been some hitches with its implementation. Touching on the CPP and the way forward, Dr. Nduom admitted to performing poorly in the 2008 elections but swiftly added that he had learnt his lessons and that, many Ghanaians are now rooting for him. He said he is now leading the crusade of reviving the party since CPP cannot win elections if some of its constituency offices remained closed down. The 2008 CPP Presidential candidate indicated that, through his efforts, some 19 constituency offices have been re-opened while frantic effort is being made to re-open other offices. Dr. Nduom also denied going public too early to declare his intention to run for the Presidential slot saying, other contenders like Bright Akwetey and Prof. Agyemang Badu Akosah have already declared their intentions to contest in the CPP presidential primaries and have even kick-started their campaigns. On the issue of whether one cannot run for President due to ill-health and/or bad behaviour, Dr. Nduom said though he is not interested in discussing any personality, it is required of a President to make his health records public. He cited the USA where health status and health records of the president are published on a monthly basis. Dr. Nduom who said he is ready for public scrutiny therefore called on the delegates of CPP to vote for him so that, the masses who are yearning for his leadership could get the chance to vote for him and for a better future.
