The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has denied media reports it intends to contest the adverse findings made against its flag bearer in court.
It said the party will not waste its time because there was nothing to contest.
A Central Committee member of the party had told the GNA that the party plans to embark on such a move to totally absolve Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom of any wrong doing.
But the General Secretary of the CPP, Mr. Ivor Greensteet told Joy News the party does not intend to pursue the matter since Dr. Nduom had been long cleared.
According to him the 1992 Constitution says that one must be convicted to be barred from contesting the presidency.
“The SFO report is not a conviction” he stated.
He said anybody that takes the matter to the Supreme Court will not be entertained as the case will be thrown out.
The matter was first raised by a flag bearer aspirant of the CPP, Mr. Bright Akwetey in the run-up to the party’s primaries.
The party hierarchy at the time said there was nothing to investigate.
