Government is putting up an over 11 million cedis facility for the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences.

President John Mahama cut the sod for the construction of the edifice two years ago.

The huge edifice which would become the biggest in Africa when completed, consists of an auditorium and a secretariat with several conference rooms and a library.

Deputy Education Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa inspected the facility on Monday to assess the extent of work done so far.

He said the completion of the five-storey building would be a legacy to the vision of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

"We have just completed a tour of what will be the new premises of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences. We are very much impressed with the progress of work.

"The contractor tells us this auditorium can be ready by next month January 2015 and then the main complex will be ready by March 2015," he said.

He applauded the contractor for the quality of work he has done so far on the job.
