Mr. Philip K. Nkrumah, Metropolitan Chief Executive, has asked taxi drivers within the Shama Ahanta East Metropolis to register and emboss their vehicles within three months to avoid prosecution.
He said additionally each driver would be required to obtain driving identification cards (DIC) that would bear the driver’s name, lorry station, passport picture and vehicle number.
Mr. Nkrumah said this at the launch of the DIC and embossments at Sekondi.
He said drivers operating at various lorry stations would wear different uniforms.
Mr. Nkrumah said the new driving schemes were aimed at reducing armed robbery and other negative tendencies.
Mr. Isaac Essau, Vice Regional Chairman of the Ghana private Road Transport Union (GPRTU)said that the new schemes were aimed at improving transportation during CAN 2008.Source: GNA
