The Northern Region town has been under curfew since the death of the overlord, several months ago.

The swoop was part of a periodic, random  security swoops of the Nanumba North District township.

The search on Saturday led to the retrieval of 732 AK-47 ammunition, 43 G3 ammunition, one short machine gun, one double barrel gun and 6 AA cartridges  among others.

Five people suspected to be linked to the discovery of the arms and ammunition were also arrested.

“In all we have five suspects who are presently in our custody. Two of them are in Tamale and the other three are assisting the police with investigations in Yendi", he said.

He added that the five suspects arrested in the swoop are likely to be charged with possessing arms and ammunition without   charged with an offence of unlawful possession of arms and ammunition.
