In 24 hours, Ghanaians can expect a rigourous debate on a controversial policy to plan Ghana's next 40 years.
The debate is the third in a series of similar debates powered by Joy FM's Thought Leadership Desk. The debate will see the Vice President of IMANI Ghana Kofi Bentil go against a serial debater and a commissioner at the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), Prof. Agyemang Badu Akosa.
The National Development Planning Commission recently launched preparatory work to develop a long-term development strategy that will be binding on successive governments for a 40 year period.
But even before the commission begins its planned nationwide consultations, a cross section of the public say this plan is not feasible.
Amongst the reasons given against the plan's feasibility is that the NDPC lacks the all-inclusive national legitimacy to enforce this plan (even if it should be legalized) because the composition of the NDPC is decided by a sitting president and its composition –often members of the incumbent party –can be changed in order to alter the course of the plan.
According to Coordinator of Thought Leadership Programmes at Joy FM, Nicholas Opuni Opoku, ''This debate promises to be very insightful and engaging. The pros and cons of this proposed plan will be well ventilated''.
''After preliminary arguments, debaters will then trade their arguments in rapid succession such that one point made by a debater is quickly countered by another who then makes a new point simultaneously.
"This debate duel format is very exciting and keeps debaters on the tips of their toes and audience on the edges of their seats".
