This year’s Eid-Ul-Fitr was as usual a special in Accra as many Muslim worshipers on Eid day had the opportunity to enjoy a free health screening at the Independence Square.
The screening was organized by the Lion Clubs of Accra and Tema which partnered with their volunteers to organize free health screening for worshipers who had come for the Eid prayers led by the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Usman Nuhu Shaributu was held.
The beneficiaries who received counseling before having their blood pressure as well as blood sugar levels, checked.
The exercise which saw over 400 worshipers screened formed part of the club’s annual humanitarian service to reach out to members of the Muslim community in Accra.
The volunteers were brought from various health facilities in the Greater Accra Region .
Speaking during the program, the president of the Lions Club Accra, Ebenezer Nortey Yeboah said the program which started three years ago has benefited over 1000 people in the greater Accra Region.
He noted that the Lions Club will partner some of the corporate bodies to enable them to reach out to more underprivileged people in society.
He added that his Club being a leader in the global humanitarian service will continue to support community programs.
Founded in 1917, Lion Club International is best known for fighting blindness but has also volunteered for many different kinds of community projects across the globe, including caring for the environment, feeding the hungry and aiding aged and the disabled persons.
Under its Lions Give Sight Program, the club conducts vision screenings, equipping hospitals and clinics, distributing medicine and raising awareness of eye disease.
Lions Club International work toward their mission of providing vision for all.
