Construction of new military garrison in WA begins

President John Mahama has cut sod for the construction of a new military garrison in the Upper West regional capital, Wa.

The president cut the sod during his three-day tour of the region which began on Thursday July 7, 2016.

While in the region, the president will interact with the chiefs and people of the region, including religious leaders, students, workers, and traders.

He will use the opportunity to elicit feedback and inaugurate new projects.

The region is the eighth to be visited by President Mahama since he began the nationwide tour in April.

Joy News’ Upper West regional correspondent, Rafiq Salam is accompanying the president and reports that the president has promised to build military garrisons in every region across the country.

Rafiq said the president also visited the Wa Central Prisons where he commissioned a new school funded with the Ghana Education Trust fund (GETfund).

The new school will accommodate inmates, members of the community, and neighbouring towns.

Mr Mahama also donated some food items to the prison.
