It is easily the most powerful city in the world and welcomes between three to four world leaders at any given month.
This same exalted city- Washington DC-which serves as the centre of the world where executive authority is exercised in a glorious White House, is also home to an estimated 22 million tourists at least for 2016 alone.
As part of plans to shore up the numbers even higher, Destination DC, the official destination marketing organization for Washington DC, in collaboration with South African Airways and Dulles International Airport has launched a discover what is new in the United States Capital campaign in Accra, Tuesday.
The campaign, among other things is to exhibit the glowing piece of culture, tourism and activities Washington DC has and why Ghanaians, Africans must take advantage of.
President and CEO of Destination DC Elliott L Ferguson, II, took a cross section of journalists through a ‘MyDC Cool’ campaign which showed a City ready to host the world at an affordable price.
The campaign name 'MyDC Cool' came about as a result of the satisfaction tourists have anytime they visited Washington DC, describing it as a cool place.
According to Ferguson, Washington DC had invested an amount of $11.8 million in tourists sites and cited many exciting edicfices including museums and theatres many tourists would love to visit.
For many who have a rather weird and boring perception of a museum, Elliot Ferguson said Washington DC makes a trip to the museum “fun and sexy” and it’s free, he added.
The museum according to him, is an abode, not just for American history, but a great resource for World history as well.
Elliott L Ferguson also mentioned the "Museum of the Bible", which is expected to open next month in DC. It will showcase the rich jewish history and impact of the Bible.
He showed places of class and pageantry, including the National Mall, the Capitol Building, the Cathedral and other interesting activities waiting for potential tourists from Ghana and Africa.
Las Vegas attack
In wake of the Las Vegas gun attack which claimed over 50 lives and injured at least 500 people concerns have been raised about how safe Ghanaian tourists will be in Washington DC in the likely event they take advantage of the DC cool campaign.
Elliott L Ferguson, conceded the attack is a cause for concern to all Americans but was quick to add, tourists wherever they are, be they in America or any other country, must take personal security very seriously.

He however assured that City authorities at Washington DC have security as a top priority as well. While it was important for the United States to fight terrorism, Mr Ferguson also urged the officials to be mindful of their comments in order not to make genuine tourists feel unwelcomed to the United States.

The Airlines has been running a non-stop Accra Washington flight and hoped Ghanaians will take advantage of the campaign to visit Washington DC.
