The recent homecoming organised by the BHOBU 91/93 O/A Level and BHOBU 93 SSS year groups of Bishop Herman College, has revealed most classrooms do not have mono-desks for students.

The situation is dire to the extent that dining hall furniture is being moved to and fro for classes and dining. This is further worsening the situation as the dining hall furniture are beginning to get broken.

As if this is not enough, teachers in most classrooms do not have chairs and tables.

The absence of this critical infrastructure significantly reduces the quality of teaching and learning, and this could affect the school’s overall academic output.

The total mono-desk deficit was identified to be 1,200. In a bid to take the problem head-on, old students and PTA of the school have offered to help.

Below is the breakdown of the situation:

The total number of mono-desks identified was 1,200.

BHOBU 92/94 O/A Level is donating a total of 500 mono-desks.

The total number of desks being donated by PTA  is 150.

This brings the Total outstanding deficit to 550 desks.

The cost per mono-desk is Gh₵150 which brings the total cost to Gh₵82,500(550 X Gh₵150).

Total No. of classrooms that need table and chair – 15

Cost per table  - Gh₵300 which brings the total to Total cost for teacher’s table and desk to  Gh₵4,500

In an attempt to reverse the situation and to promote the educational objectives of the school, some concerned old students of the school have embarked on a campaign dubbed “BHOBU Let Your Donation Count”.

This clarion call is aimed at inspiring old students to cultivate the habit of frequently giving back to the college to complement government efforts in meeting the infrastructure needs of the school.

There are a number of problems facing the school which the old students hope to use this campaign to help solve lastingly.

The conveners of this campaign, old students and management of the school, are making a passionate appeal to all old students, all proud friends and affiliates of the school, philanthropists, NGOs, CSOs, corporate organisations, and the general public to help in providing the young ones with quality mono-desks that make them comfortable in class and boost their concentration.

The conveners hope that after this has been fixed, the campaign will be taken a notch higher to provide 100 three-in-one metallic beds to accommodate 300 students, a public address system, studio for students learning Music, incinerator as well as extend generator power to classroom blocks.

The concerned old boys also procure a 72-seater bus, a pickup vehicle for use by the administration in addition to embarking on expansion works on the school’s dining hall as well as renovating the staff bungalows and House 1 otherwise known as ‘The Giant Block’.
