Dutylex, a local supplier of quality Mobil Lubricants as well as its own blended Dutylex Lubricants to major Mining, Marine, oil and gas companies in the country, considers this as its contribution towards human development efforts in the country

Managing Director of the company, Peter Quarm, said his company believes in human resources development and would contribute to support projects which target developing the capacity of children.

He said the future of these children is dependent on the quality education they receive when they are growing up, reports Joy News’ Maxwell Kudekor.

According to him, Dutylex will not only focus on supplying lubricants such as engine oils, gear oils, hydraulic oils, compressor oils, greases and degreasers to impact productivity especially in the mining sector but will also religiously honour its Corporate Social Responsibility towards the development of the nation.

Mine Manager at Newmont Akyem, Justice Fenteng who received the donation on behalf of Newmont expressed gratitude to Dutylex for the kind gesture and indicated Newmont will sponsor many brilliant residents in the New Abirem area to pursue higher education.

He urged the children to take reading seriously and learn to achieve laurels in order to benefit from the various educational sponsorship and employment opportunities available at Newmont.

Their concerns follow a survey conducted by the Women and Allies Group at Newmont Goldcorp which showed a disturbing trend in the performance of students in the area.

The survey found that many basic school students up to class six and in some cases junior high school (JHS) Form 1 cannot read or write.

Also, a number of them also cannot express themselves in English.

Further, it was found that a few JHS students who are able to read do not comprehend what they read.

Some girls between 12 and 16 years were found to be pregnant with many of them dropping out of school whiles the boys of the same age are dropping out to become tricycle drivers.

To curb this phenomenon, the Women and Allies Group at Newmont Goldcorp has initiated a three-year project to improve literacy level in some selected public basic schools in the area.
