Banished DCE may return soon

The Youthful Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Mr. Ignatius Baffour Awuah is reported to have set in motion a reconciliation process that may eventually rescue the District Chief Executive (DCE) of the Sene District, Madam Cynthia Titiriku Danso, from her current woes that have culminated in her being banished from the District. As part of measures to calm down the current tension at the District capital, Kwame Danso, and to allow the banished DCE return to her post, the Regional Minister and his deputy, Nana Abraham Kwadwo Kwakye and some regional executive members of the NPP held a marathon meeting with the Sene constituency executives of the NPP and representatives of the traditional rulers from the area last Monday. The Regional NPP executives who attended the reconciliation meeting included Mr. Yaw Addai Owusu, Financial Secretary; Mr. Anthony Kusi, the regional Secretary; Mr. Kofi Darko, regional Organizer and Mr. Mensah Osei Bonsu, the Regional Treasurer. Also present was the DCE herself, who for the first time since March ending when she was chased out from Kwame Danso, had the opportunity to see citizens from her district to appeal to them for a solution to be found to her problems. Madam Titiriku together with her top management staff, made up of the District Coordinating Director (DCD), Mr. J.B Bening; the District Finance Officer (DFO) , Mr. Kodua and the Assembly's Accountant were nearly lynched at Moonlight Hotel at Atebubu, where they had shifted their offices to in order to help the fugitive DCE perform her official duties. The Regional Minister and his team on Monday, April 17 had difficulty convincing the delegation from Sene to allow the DCE return to her office after they had banished her from entering the District capital. The crisis meeting, which lasted for almost 6 hours, saw the Sene delegation telling the DCE their peace of mind in the presence of the Minister. "The last meeting brought to eight, the number of reconciliation meetings the people had had with the DCE, yet things remain unchanged", said the NPP Constituency Chairman for Sene. The last reconciliation meeting between the party executives and the DCE was mediated by the deputy minister of Local government, Mr. Abraham Dwomo Odoom at the capital of the district, Kwame Danso. Although, the NPP Constituency Executives led by the chairman, Mr. Moro Sanda and President of Bassa Traditional Area, Nana Owiredu Dente who also represented the three traditional areas agreed in principle to allow Madam Titiriku to return to work, the conclusion was that the Regional Minister, Mr. Baffour Awuah would have to travel to Kwame Danso to meet the youth for the purposes of convincing them to accept the DCE back. The Chronicle said its intelligence gathered that the Minister was to trek to the far east district of Sene on Wednesday to dialogue with the youth there. The Chronicle also gathered that the delegation who met the minister at his office on Monday only accepted the proposal of the Minister in principle because as a regional minister they had to accept his plea for the return of the DCE, but needed to get the entire aggrieved persons convinced. The paper said at the time of filing this report, information it received from Kwame Danso had it that most of the youth who are NPP supporters have began wearing National Democratic Congress (NDC) colours to indicate that if Madam Titiriku is allowed to assume office as DCE for Sene. They would cross carpet. Although the NPP constituency chairman, Alhaji Sanda, according to our information was trying to get the irate youth to a meeting for a fruitful discussion, almost all of them were still adamant and not willing to meet the chairman or the Regional Minister. According to the information, Madam Titiriku could return to her post, but that would mean that they as members of the NPP would advise themselves and it was left to the party leadership to choose between the DCE and NPP. When The Chronicle contacted the DCD, Mr. Bening on why they moved certain vital documents to Atebubu to transact business with the DCE, instead of her office at Kwame Danso, he explained that the DCE needed to sign portions of some contract documents and cheques to enable the assembly pay some contractors. According to the DCD, the delay in payment for certain jobs completed by contractors was one of the compounding problems that the DCE was facing and they thought it wise to offset some outstanding payments to pave way for peace. The DCD told The Chronicle that since the DCE was banished from the town, they had to take the documents and some cheques to Atebubu for her to sign. He continued that while they were still at Moonlight Hotel at Atebubu, citizens of Kwame Danso resident at Atebubu surrounded them accusing them of doing illegal business with the DCE. He said, "But for the intervention of the police, the DCE would have been lynched". At the time of the interview last week Thursday, he disclosed that the Assembly had paid some three contractors who they believe could talk to their people to calm down. The contractors were Suma Danso, Sarkwa and Alhaji Salisu.
