Construction of infectious disease isolation and treatment facility at Ga East Hospital

The Managing Trustee of the Covid-19 Private Sector Fund has praised the local workmen and donors for supporting the construction of the 100-bed Isolation and Treatment Centre at the Ga East Hospital site.

Senyo Hosi giving an update on the progress of work on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show Wednesday, he could not hide how proud he is of his fellow Ghanaians working on a historical project.

“Nobody’s done anything like this before at the pace we are getting things done so it’s a learning experience. One of the things that gives me pride is the professionalism and competence of our local engineers.”

“Kudos to the entire team out there; the Ghana Institute of Surveyors, the Ghana Union of Architects, Ghana Institute of Engineers, Ghana Institute of Planners, and the military; the 48 and 49 Regiments. They’ve been quite a great team together to work with,” he added.

“It’s been an honour leading them throughout this process,” he said.

Even though the team met some challenges along the way, the Managing Trustee disclosed that the project which is nearing completion has had some added facilities to it.

“Now we actually have an ICU for infectious diseases; a 21-bed ICU, something that didn’t exist before and within this we have five units that are purely isolated for extremely serious cases and that’s something that doesn’t exist here in Ghana too,” Mr Hosi said.

Due to the addition of world-class facilities to the self-sustaining centre, he said the costs have increased. He called for more support to be given to complete the project.

“Those things have also increased our cost a bit. The support from the donors has been great. The state-owned enterprises have been even more supportive than the Private Sector. We’ve reached about some ¢21 million towards the project. We need about ¢7 million to go. We are very tight.”

“I think this project is not just historical. It’s a signature, it’s one that we all need to realise that is at the core of this fight against Covid-19. It is important we all support this project and we donate as much as we can.”

“To everybody, every ¢10 counts, every ¢5 counts at this stage. We need every single support,” he added.
