A vigil was held at the Air Force Officers Mess in Accra, on Sunday, to honour late Jerry John Rawlings.

The event was graced by his family including his wife Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings and his children Zanetor, Amina, Yaa Asantewaa, and Kimathi.

Also present were some dignitaries and statesmen. The army started the vigil by lighting a fire before the arrival of guests.

Later, artists and singers were invited to pay tribute to the former president through their crafts.

Sax Borsah and his crew played a dirge "Blewo ee" and Adina sang a medley of songs that left her in tears.

Some artists were also invited to draw their own portraits of the former president on stage.

The Old Achimota Association also performed a medley to remember the late Mr Rawlings.

Nunoo Amartefio, Valerie Sackey, Anyidoho and others share their tributes and fond memories of Rawlings.

This vigil is part of a four day event that marks the funeral rites of the former President.

The former President will be laid in state on Monday, January 25, and Tuesday, January 26, at the Accra International Conference Centre for various interest groups and members of the public to have an opportunity to pay their last respects.

Earlier in the day, a requiem mass was held to pray for Jerry John Rawlings and also celebrate his life.
