The National Health Insurance Workers Union is asking government to adequately resource and address challenges of district mutual health schemes.
They warn that if this is not done, the health insurance scheme could collapse.
The Union said for the past two years government has starved the districts of administrative funds and other logistics for smooth running of the scheme.
In a report filed by Nhyira FM’s Kofi Asante, the General Secretary of the workers’ union, Kinsley Bobbie, said there was too much political interference in the work of the scheme.
“Seizure of health insurance by some people who call themselves foot soldiers,” he said was one major disturbing factor.
He claimed party foot-soldiers wield such power that they are able to dictate to the National Health Authority who to sack and who not to.
He appealed to the government to work hard and make the scheme successful.
