Legal practitioner and political analyst, Amanda Akuokor Clinton, has criticised the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) for what she described as a lack of sensitivity in the arrest of Alfred Ababio Kumi, also known as Adenta Kumi.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme on Saturday, 24th May, Ms Clinton said the handling of the situation could have been more measured, given the political and emotional ramifications.
“I think NIB should have been a bit sensitive with Adenta Kumi’s arrest,” she remarked, adding that while security agencies have the mandate to enforce the law, the manner of execution should not infringe on dignity or provoke unnecessary tension.
Kumi, a former NPP parliamentary aspirant for Adentan, had accused members of the committee probing Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo of engaging in improper conduct.
His claims—centred around an alleged meeting involving Justices Gabriel Pwamang, Samuel Asiedu, and Yonny Kulendi with lawyer Thaddeus Sory—have stirred public controversy after a video of the supposed meeting surfaced online.
His arrest was condemned by the NPP as an act of intimidation.
Adding to the fallout, NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua alleged that Kumi’s wife suffered a miscarriage following a dawn raid by state security operatives.
