Mr. George Kofi Busia, a 50-year old auditor and government appointee to the Nkoranza District Assembly has been elected as the new Presiding Member of the assembly.He polled 41 votes to beat his contender, Mr. Thomas Adu-Appiah 47, an official of the district secretariat of the National Disaster Management Organisation, who obtained 15 votes from the 56 members who voted.The election of the presiding member became possible as Major Derek Oduro (rtd) former PM was elected as the Nkoranza North Member of Parliament.Mr. Busia in his acceptance speech was full of praises to the assembly members for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to serve the assembly diligently.He pleaded with them to offer the necessary support and advice towards his work and urged the members to bury their political differences, forge ahead in unity in order to coordinate ideas and initiate developmental projects.Mr. James Arthur Yeboah and Mr. Samuel Owusu Adjei of the Nkoranza electoral commission commended the delegates for carrying out the elections in an orderly and peaceful manner.Mr. Adu-Appiah conceded defeat and gave the assurance to offer the necessary support and encouragement to Mr. Busia to enable him to lead the assembly to chalk successes to ensure development.Mr. James Kwabena Appiah-Awuah, the District Chief Executive was grateful to the members for their spirit of togetherness in choosing the presiding member.Source: GNA
