The Nkoranza North District Assembly has purchased six tractors valued at about 96,000 Ghana cedis to help farmers in the area expand their activities.
Madam Grace Obeng Donkor, District Chief Executive, announced this on Monday at the second ordinary meeting of the Assembly at Busunya.
She explained that the Assembly was committed to making tractor services easily available to the farmers so they could expand their activities to increase the production of maize, rice and vegetables in the district.
The DCE said the machines would be purchased from the District Assembly’s Common Fund within a period of three years and that a five-member committee had been put in place to oversee their management and control to ensure maximum benefits.
Madam Donkor disclosed that the Assembly had procured 272 electricity poles valued at 54,000 Ghana cedis towards the extension and rehabilitation of electricity projects in some selected communities in the district.
The beneficiary communities are Asekye-Krukese, Pinihe, Boana, Bodom, Yefri, Tankor, Boabeng, Fiema and Bonte.
Others are Bomini, Busunya, Dromankese, Akonkonti, Odumase, Kranka, Akrudwa Number Two and Bono Manso, she added.
On education, Madam Donkor said a total number of 5,500 pupils in 23 primary schools in the district were enjoying the School Feeding Programme, adding that school implementation committees would be formed in the communities to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness in the management of the programme.
She expressed concern about the low level of awareness among the people about their tax obligations and stressed the need for the Assembly to embark on an educational programme to sensitize the people to pay taxes to generate more revenue for development projects.
Madam Donkor disclosed that, as at the end of September, the Assembly had so far mobilized 36,902.70 Ghana cedis out of an estimated target of 79.636.00 Ghana cedis and stressed the need for the Assembly Members to educate the people to honour their tax obligations.
She said the Assembly had awarded on contract some projects for the provision of accommodation for departmental heads posted to the district.
Mr. Benjamin Adu Darko, Presiding Member, commended members for their impressive attendance and asked them to maintain the cooperative spirit to move the district forward.
He urged them to educate the electorate on their roles and responsibilities as partners in the development of the district so they would offer the necessary support to all development programmes.
