The National Lottery Authority (NLA) has reviewed commissions payable to lotto retailers on the purchase of lottery coupons and tickets from 25 per cent to 20 per cent.
A statement issued by Mr Kojo Andah, Director General of NLA, to all Lotto marketing companies, the public, and individuals said the review would take effect from Monday, March 28.
The decision by the Authority to undertake the review, followed an Accra High Court ruling on Wednesday, March 23, this year that dismissed an interlocutory injunction application filed by the Association of Lotto Marketing Companies and the National Lotto Receivers Union to restrain the Authority from reducing the commission payable to Lotto Marketing Companies from 25 per cent to 20 per cent.
The Court affirmed the right of the Authority under section 28 of the National Lotto Act, 2006 (Act 722) to review commissions payable to retailers from time to time.
The statement noted that with the introduction of the Portable Automatic Data Processing Machines, "it is the expectation of the Authority that an enabling environment would be created for retailers to earn additional income from using the machines to sell new games and also benefit from other non-lottery products."
It said: "This we believe will position the Authority to increase its revenue contributions to Government for national development".
