A month after government issued an action paper on scandalous revelations of graft at a youth employment agency, JOY NEWS checks reveal action is yet to be taken on it. The nation is losing about fifty million Ghana cedis monthly as contracts which the committee recommended should be abrogation have still not been cancelled. The Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Agency (GYEEDA) came under fire after Joy FM's Manasseh Azure uncovered rot at the government-run agency. A ministerial committee was set up by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah to look into allegations of massive corruption and fraud. A senior member of the ruling National Democratic Congress Sam Pee Yalley also described the report that came out of that investigation as horrible and stinking. Political opponents such as former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Ahafo Ano South, Stephen Balado-Manu challenged the President to act on the recommendations contained in the investigative report, saying GYEEDA report is a litmus test for Mahama on corruption It has been more than two months since the ministerial committee, which undertook the investigations, submitted its report to the President Mahama. The President who asked an adivsor P.V Obeng to review the report and draw up an action plan promised radical restructuring and vowed to "implement those recommendations in a very firm manner". It is now more than a month since the government issued this action paper in which it directed Attorney-General to chase persons cited in GYEEDA report. The President also charged state institutions such as Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Economic Organised Crime Office (EOCO), and the Attorney General’s Department to act on the recommendations. But action is yet to be taken on the GYEEDA report. Manasseh Azure Awuni, reports that his checks reveal nothing has been done so far. He reports that the Attorney- General is waiting for EOCO to present a docket of their investigations in order to take legal action while EOCO sources say they are only looking at top GYEEDA officials cited for corruption and fraud. EOCO sources says they are not pursuing Zoomlion Ghana Limited, a waste management company, Asontaba and other service providers whose contract with government were suppoed to be abrogated. Manasseh reveals that there is no deadline to be met by state institutions working on the GYEEDA action plan.
